Dr. Eshleman was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He was educated at Haverford College, Franklin & Marshall College and the University of Pennsylvania. After directing Critical Care in the University of Rochester system, he returned to practice in Lancaster in 1977 and was a founding member of Pulmonary Associates.
During his school years, he enjoyed football, baseball, basketball and track. He was also involved in music through his school. He served as an Army flight surgeon in Vietnam. After the military service, he worked as a physician in Tanzania, Africa.
He enjoys singing and has sung in various Glee clubs and choruses including the Lancaster Symphony Chorus and the Lancaster Chamber Singers.
Dr. Eshleman enjoys traveling, good friends, good food, fine wine and literature.
