About Your Procedure

Some medical conditions require us to do procedures to assist in your treatment or to establish a diagnosis. Our pulmonologists have specialized training that qualifies them to perform these procedures. These procedures include:

Thoracentesis: A procedure to remove fluid from the space between the lining of the outside of the lungs (pleura) and the wall of the chest. This procedure can be done in our office. It is done to treat pleural effusion which can cause shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.

Bronchoscopy: An endoscopic technique of visualizing the inside of the airways for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. An instrument (bronchoscope) is inserted into the airways, usually through the mouth. These procedures include transbronchial bronchoscopy as well as endobronchial ultrasound bronchoscopy and the new cutting edge electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy. These procedures help to diagnose various lung conditions including lung cancer and its staging.
